Session
A successful massage session requires your participation. Ensure that you:
- Ask questions
- Make your wishes known
- Communicate your concerns
- Communicate discomfort immediately
- Do everything you can to clear your mind and environment of distractions
- Relax and enjoy your massage!
Every massage session is an individual, unique experience. However, all sessions generally share a number of common elements:
Prior to Your Session
- Drink plenty of water
- Do not consume a large meal
- Do not consume alcohol
- New clients will be required to complete both the Client Data and Client Health forms. To save time during your first visit, it is suggested that the forms be downloaded and completed prior to your appointment
- Prenatal clients will also need to complete the Client Prenatal Release prior to their first prenatal session. Based upon responses to this form, the Physician Prenatal Release may also be required
Start of Your Session
- Returning clients will be asked to verify and/or update their data and health information
- Depending upon your situation, a postural assessment may be conducted
- Communicate any injuries, wounds, sores, problem areas, or other concerns
- Usually, you will be instructed to remove as much clothing, in private, as you are comfortable with. Modesty and privacy are always respected
During Your Session
- Throughout a full-body massage, you will be completely draped with linen. Only the part of the body being worked is exposed
- You will be instructed as to what is required of you throughout the session
- Always communicate pain, discomfort or other concerns
- A variety of music will generally be made available. It is your option if you wish to have music played during your massage
- Conversing during the massage is acceptable, but excessive conversation may detract from the relaxation aspect of the massage
- It is perfectly acceptable (and often desirable!) to fall asleep during your session
Following Your Session
- Drink plenty of water
- It is likely that hair or makeup will be disordered
- It is not uncommon to experience some minor aches or pains following your massage
- An epsom salt bath may be recommended to aid in detoxification
- Depending upon your situation, simple stretches or exercises may be prescribed to compliment your therapy
